Title

Medieval Scapini Tarot

Subject

Medieval, Renaissance

Description

78 cards. No title card or LWB with my copy; however, I believe the deck would have originally had these items. Packaged in a standard cardboard tuck box with a cutout in the front to let a card show through.

Cards are slightly longer than average and measure 13.2 cm tall x 7.1 cm wide.

Backs have a reversible gold pattern. The card stock is flexible and has a lightly glossy, smooth finish.

Justice is 8 and Force (Strength) is 11. The Fool is numbered 0.

The suits are Cups, Coins, Swords, and Wands. The courts are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

The art is simply stunning, and seems to be intended to look as if it is an actual medieval deck (though it is not, nor is it based on one). The majors show some TdM influence, and the minors show some RWS influence, in that the mini-scenes evoke the same types of meanings as the same cards in the RWS.

The minors are a cross between illustrated and semi-scenic; the suit symbols tend to take up most of the space, but there's just enough of a scene on each care to bring forth meaning.

Note: I believe I have another open copy of this deck somewhere, that includes the LWB. I will update this entry if/when I can find the other copy.
