Description
78 cards + a title card and an advertising card for Arnell's Art, accompanied by a 40 page softcover guidebook, housed in a 2-part, lidded cardboard box. A magnet also accompanied the set.
Cards measure 5" tall x 3.5" wide. The card stock has a smooth, semi-matte finish and is reasonably flexible.
The card back design is not reversible, and it looks like it could be a card in the deck -- I find it distracting, as I have to double-check that I'm looking at the front of the cards and not the back.
Justice is 8 and Strength is 11. The Fool is numbered 0.
Suits are Sparks (fire), Spirals (earth), Wings (air), and Coral (water). The court cards are Dreamer, Trail, Queen, and King.
The minor arcana are scenic; however, it isn't always possible to discern what, exactly, is going on in each scene. There's a nod to the RWS here and there, but largely this deck does its own thing.
I find this deck to be more successful as a work of art than as a divinatory tool. In terms of graphic design, it doesn't seem to have been laid out with actual use in mind -- the card titles are in a tiny, plain font, for example, and appear in different locations on different cards.
My conclusion: It's an art deck, not a working deck.
