Dublin Core

Title

Arthurian Tarot (reprint)

Subject

Arthurian legend

Description

78 cards plus an 80 page booklet in a green lidded cardboard box. No title card.

Cards are 11.8 cm tall x 7 cm wide.

Suits are Spear, Sword, Stone, and Grail.

Courts are Maiden, Knight, Queen, and King.

Backs are reversible.

Many of the major arcana are renamed; for example, the Death card is named The Washer at the Ford.

Aces are designated "Hallow."

Major arcana 8 is Gawain; major arcana 11 is Sovereignty.

All cards are fully scenic, though the minors do not feature people.

Printed in China.

My copy came with an extra Spear Knight, perhaps because the card coating is quite shiny and sticky. It took some effort to "unstick" all the cards.

This copy is from the 2006 reprint; the deck was originally published in 1990, and is sometimes known as the Hallowquest tarot. The booklet with the 2006 reprint is new for this edition, and the box describes this edition as having "enhanced cards" -- suggesting that some of the art may be updated, or perhaps have updated coloring.

I have not yet made a close comparison of my 1990 and 2006 copies, though, to be sure of what may have been changed.
