Da Vinci Enigma Tarot
Dublin Core
Title
Da Vinci Enigma Tarot
Subject
Art--Leonardo Da Vinci
Description
78 cards + 2 extra "enigma" cards (see below), packaged with a 144 page, softcover companion book in a 2-part, lidded cardboard shelf box.
The 2 extra enigma cards are explained on pages 16-17 of the companion book; they aren't intended for use but for reference.
The cards measure 3" wide x 4.75" long.
The card stock is thin and somewhat flexible, but feels as if it could be easily creased during shuffling; I advise extra care when handling. The cards have a flat matte varnish that is smooth on the front and slightly rough to the touch on the back. My deck has a slight warp that has developed over time; I've observed this to a be a common occurence in St. Martin's Press decks of this vintage.
The card back design is non-reversible.
Many, though not all, of the major arcana cards have been renamed; an explanatory chart is provided on page 18 of the companion book. Strength is VIII and Experience (Justice) is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.
Suits are Air (Swords), Water (Cups), Fire (Wands), and Earth (Coins). The court cards are Page, Knight, Lady, and Lord.
The minor arcana are illustrated, but not scenic. All of the cards depict bits and pieces of Da Vinci's art and illustrations, without the addition of suit symbols, and without any attempt at manipulation into "tarot scenes."
Hence, this isn't a useful (or even usable) divinatory tool. It's a thoughtful homage to Leonardo Da Vinci's life, art, and work -- but it doesn't look or function like a tarot deck.
