Miss Cleo's Tarot Power Deck
Dublin Core
Title
Miss Cleo's Tarot Power Deck
Subject
Tarot
Ancient Egypt
Description
78 cards in a two-part, lidded cardboard box. The set also includes an LWB, and a curious extra card with a double-sided image of the card backs.Â
On closer examination, the extra card consists of 2 cards that were glued together, facing one another. I didn't peel them completely apart, as I didn't want to cause damage, but both have advertising on them, probably for the psychic hotline associated with the Miss Cleo brand, or for related services. I wonder if those cards had to be glued together or otherwise defaced or discarded for legal reasons? Or if a previous owner of this specific copy decided to glue those cards together?
The cards measure 12 cm tall x 7 cm wide. The card stock is reasonably flexible, with a smoothe matte finish.
The card back design is reversible.
This is an RWS-style deck, though it isn't close enough to be a true clone. The cards feature cartoonish characters dressed in what seems intended to be the style of ancient Egypt.
For those not old enough to remember, "Miss Cleo" was the subject of a pervasive TV advertising campaign for a pay-per-minute fortune telling phone line. Miss Cleo was featured in the ads, as if to suggest that callers would get to speak with her -- but of course this was not the case.Â
Strength is 8 and Justice is 11. The Fool is numbered 0.Â
Suits are Staffs, Cups, Swords, and Coins. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.
The minor arcana are scenic, though often light on details.
A VHS videocasette (Miss Cleo's Tarot Power Video) also accompanies this deck. I have never watched it, and it seems to be in pristine shape.
