Jean Noblet Tarot of Marseille

Subject

Tarot de Marseille
Historical decks

Description

78 cards + a small, 64 page guide booklet in a cardboard tuck box.

The cards measure 9.8 cm tall x 6.2 cm wide.

The card stock is a little thicker and stiffer/less flexible than average. Given that the cards also have square corners, it would be challenging to riffle shuffle this deck.

The card backs are a completely reversible black and white pattern.

Justice is VIII and Force is XI. The Fool (Le Fou) is unnumbered.

Suits are Cups, Batons, Swords, and Coins. Court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King. (All card titles are in French, though I'm listing the English equivalents here.)

As in all Marseille-pattern decks, the minor arcana are illustrated, but not scenic.

This deck is based on the Jean Noblet tarot of c.1650, restored by Jean-Claude Flornoy. The originals of the Noblet 1650 are in the French National Library.

On a personal note, this has been one of my main reading decks for going on two years. I began using it for readings when I first took one of Camelia Elias's online courses on reading the TdM.
