Hermetic Tarot
Dublin Core
Title
Hermetic Tarot
Subject
Golden Dawn
Description
78 cards plus a title card, advertising card, and LWB in a red and yellow cardboard tuck box.
Cards measure 11 cm tall x 7 cm wide.
The card stock is flexible, with a lightly glossy finish.
Card backs are reversible.
Fortitude is 8 and Justice is 11. The Foolish Man (the Fool card) is numbered 0.
The minors show some distinct Thoth influences, but not enough to consider it a clone.
Suits are Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles. Courts are Princess, King, Queen, and Knight.
This particular copy is from the first publication of the deck, in 1980. It was later re-released, with the same images but with a slight difference in size and box appearance, in 1996.
Some sources list the first publication as 1990, but I find no evidence to suggest this is the case, at least not with the copy I possess. The LWB is very much of the early USG style, and is co-written by Stuart Kaplan. All the decks listed on the advertising card are pre-1980 titles.
The cards were printed in Belgium by Carta Mundi. The decks were then distributed in the U.S. by U.S. Games.
