Coins of the Tarot
Description
An account of the resource
This is a set consisting of 78 tarot coins, as well as a small deck of 78 cards.

The coins and cards are housed together in cardboard box. Within the set box, the coins are divided into separate zip-top bags by suit, and the cards are housed inside a white cardboard tuck box. A black drawstring bag is also provided for the coins, but I have doubts regarding whether they'd all fit comfortably. A spiral-bound guidebook is also included, but it is larger format and doesn't fit in the box.

The coins measure about 2.5 cm in diameter. The cards measure 5.7 cm wide x 8.9 cm long. The card stock is semi-flexible, with a smooth, semi-matte finish.

The backs of the coins and the cards are fully reversible.

In terms of numbering and naming, the coins and cards follow the RWS system.

Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

The suits are Cups, Swords, Wands, and Pentacles. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are pips; just arrangements of suit symbols. Even in the majors and courts, the art is perfunctory and reduced to simple, recognizable symbols.

This set was initially funded and marketed via a Kickstarter campaign; I was a backer. In the campaign, the creator's name was given as Arthur Pittsley. In the guidebook, credits are given to additional members of the team, as well. "Asher" wrote the spreads, meanings, and introduction. Kyle (the creator's nephew) and Shari (the creator's wife) are also mentioned as having helped with the project.

My copy of the guidebook is signed in the back, on the last page. There are 3 signatures; one of the names is clearly Kyle, but the others are less legible. One appears to start with an A, but that could be Arthur or Asher. The other appears to start with an S, which would most logically be Shari.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + a small, softcover guidebook in a sturdy cardboard box with a magnetic flip-top.

A drawstring bag was also included; it is made of an unbleached burlap-type fabric with the deck's title stamped on the front. I also received a small enamel pin with my copy, which I've attached to the bag for safekeeping.

A paper "thank you" insert was included as well, noting that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the deck will go to the "Honeybee foundation." However, when I Google searched for it, it was unclear which Honeybee foundation is being referenced.

The cards measure 7.7 cm wide x 12.9 cm long. (Page 81 of the guidebook gives the length as 5 inches, but after repeated measurements, I find them to be slightly over 5 inches.)

The cardstock is mildly flexible and has a very flat, matte finish, but is embellished with blue foil stamped bees on the card backs. The deck is edged in blue foil, as well. There's something about the feel of the cards in my hand that leads me to caution against riffle shuffling, as this could lead to accidental creases.

The card back design is fully reversible.

Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

The suits are Wands, Cups, Swords, and Disks. The court cards are Princess, Knight, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are semi-scenic, with occasional nods to the RWS, but not enough so to be easily readable.

On reflection, I mildly regret purchasing this deck. It's beautiful, but not usable. Every card gives me the same impression -- "pretty! bee!" -- rather than drawing me into a divinatory headspace.

Artistically, it is extremely consistent, competent, and thoughtful. It is lovely. It would look fantastic in Instagram photos. But it doesn't succeed as a tarot deck.

The bottom of the box notes that this is the first edition. This deck was initially marketed and funded via a Kickstarter campaign; I was a backer for one signed copy. Inside the flip top portion of the box, my copy is signed by the artist and numbered as #301 of 840. The deck itself is not signed.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + a title card + an author's "about" card + an LWB in a standard cardboard tuck box.

The cards measure 2.75" wide x 4.75" long. The card suffers from having been printed in Italy -- Italian printings of USG decks from this period are notoriously sticky, and this deck is no exception. The cardstock is somewhat flexible, with a lightly glossy yet sticky finish. The cards do not slide or shuffle easily; they glom on to each other and must be carefully separated, even after repeated handling.

The card back design is fully reversible.

Some, though not all, of the major arcana have been renamed. Justice is VIII and Strength is XI. The Dreamer (Fool) is numbered 0.

Suits are Cups, Wands, Swords, and Coins. The court cards are Princess, Prince, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are somewhat scenic, insofar as possible given the collage art. Sadly, the print quality does the art a disfavor in that it is too dark;
distinctions are lost. Also, the dimensions look slightly skewed and stretched in some cards.

In some of the cards, an RWS influence is evident, but in many cases these cards are doing their own thing, without obvious references to any major system.

My copy is signed by the artist, Arnell Ando, on the title card. If memory serves, I purchased this deck through her website in order to receive a signed copy.

Description
An account of the resource
21 cards + a signed title card, with a fold-out guide in a two-part cardstock sleeve container.

The cards are round, measuring 4.75 inches in diameter. The card stock is very flexible. The fronts are uncoated, and the backs have a lightly glossy, smooth finish.

Though the cards bear unique titles in keeping with the deck's matriarchal theme, most are clearly aligned with the 22 traditional major arcana.

A notable exception to the overt feminism is card #4, Pan, which seems to be a fusion of the tradtional Emperor and Hierophant cards. Thus, there are 21 majors in total rather than 22.

I purchased my copy from the AradiaTarot shop on Etsy in March 2020; at the time of purchase, I was given the option to have it signed.

80 cards + a title card + a "certificate of authenticity" signed/numbered card. The cards are housed in a drawstring bag that fits inside a wooden box with a hinged lid. (According to the Taroteca website, the wooden boxes for the limited edition were handmade.)

The name of the deck is woodburned on the box lid and also stamped in gold on the drawstring bag.

The cards measure 8.78 cm wide x 14 cm long. The cardstock is flexible, with a soft, matte finish that I can only describe as luxuriant and velvet-like. Seriously, these cards are a joy to hold. The cards are edged in matte gold.

The card back design is fully reversible.

Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

Suits are Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are scenic in the RWS style, but with art clearly inspired by Tim Burton's 2005 film Corpse Bride.

Two extra cards are included -- alternate versions of the Sun and the Moon.

My copy is #282 out of a limited edition of 500. The certificate of authenticity is hand-numbered and signed.

I'm having difficulty pinning down the publication date/year. No year is printed on the cards, box, or bag, and the Taroteca website doesn't list a year, either. However, the first product reviews of the limited edition were posted in December 2018, so that seems to have been when the deck was first available.

According to the Taroteca site, the limited edition retailed for $139 USD, and is sold out.

1st edition. Limited edition of 200 decks; this set is #12 of a limited, numbered, signed special edition of 30.

The deck itself is not signed, but the set includes a numbered, signed "special edition" card as well as a numbered, signed large print of the Fool card.
Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + 10 postcards and a signed, numbered print and a signed, numbered edition card in a large, 2-piece wooden box with a sliding cover.

The cards are rectangular, measuring 7.2 cm wide x 15.1 cm long.

The card stock is uncoated, and the corners are square. This is not a deck intended for standard shuffling methods.

The card back design is non-reversible.

No guidebook is provided with this set, and it seems intended to be an art object, not a working deck.

Justice is 8 and I think Strength is 11, but it's not a typical depiction of Strength (there's no lion or animal in the image). The Fool is numbered 22.

The suits are not named, but the suit symbols are recognizable as Cups, Batons, Coins, and Swords. Likewise, the court cards are not titled, but they appear to fit within a Page, Knight, Queen, and King structure.

The minor arcana are pips. The Cups and Coins cards are fairly plain, while the Batons and Swords cards are more fully illustrated.

Note: The card measurements that are listed on Arnell's Art site (see link below) differ notably from my measurements. I have re-measured my cards several times and they are defintely 7.2 cm wide by 15.1 cm long.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards in a high-quality, custom-made flip-top box with a ribbon inside for safely lifting and removing the cards. Along with the deck and box, the set also includes:

a signed and numbered card indicating that this copy is 75/200 from the first edition

a beautiful, handmade accordion-style folding booklet with more information about the deck and cards

a card with verses of Matteo Boiardo on both sides

a business card with a handwritten thank you note, signed by Steve Gammon

Also of note is a burgundy cardstock band wrapped around the deck, with the Jook Tarot seal stamped in gold wax.

The cards measure 12 cm tall x 7 cm wide. The card stock is thin and moderately flexible, with a smooth, mostly matte finish. I'm not sure how well this deck would stand up to routine shuffling; I advise exercising care when handling.

The card back design is fully reversible.

Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

Suits are Fear (Swords), Jealousy (Wands), Hope (Coins), and Love (Cups). The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

Each card (minors, courts, and majors) features a different black and white photo of silent film actress Theda Bara. In the background, the major arcana have text from PD Ouspensky's Symbolism of the Tarot while the minor arcana contain verses from 15th century poet Matteo Boiardo (1441-1494).

As the artists note on the deck's website: "Boiardo wrote a three-line poem for each card, and these are shown in their entirety on each minor card in the deck."

Initially marketed via an unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign in 2018, the deck was eventually completed and sold via Jook Art's Etsy store. Buyers were given a choice of box colors and patterns; by the time I purchased my copy, the choices were very limited, but I absolutely LOVE the color I ended up with -- a sort of silvery-lilac with a lace-like pattern.

Jook Art is a father/daughter collaboration of Steve and Katie Gammon.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + a signed, numbered title card in a slightly loose-fitting cardboard tuck box. A thin, comb-bound guidebook accompanies the deck. Along with my copy of the deck and guidebook, I also received a handmade card with a handwritten, signed note from the author.

The cards measure about 10.2 cm tall x 6.7 cm wide and are homemade. The cards are laminated on both sides; the lamination is shiny, but not sticky. The cards are somewhat flexible, but because of the lamination, the deck is thicker than average--the thickness makes regular shuffling a challenge.

The back design is reversible. Strength is 8 and Justice is 11. The Fool is numbered 0.

Suits are Wands, Swords, Cups, and Pentacles. Court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are scenic and primarily follow the RWS system, with a lot of variance.

The deck's insipiration, theme, and quirky characters are drawn from the Daughters of Divination group.

Additional note: Black & white copies of the Compound tarot were also made available in comb-bound booklet form. I have 2 copies of it, both of which are signed by the artist.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards plus a signed title card, with a handwritten note from the artist. No box or bag came with this deck. The cards are small, measuring about 9.7 cm tall x 5.7 cm wide. The deck is handmade, and the cards were home-laminated on both sides by the artist. The cards are quite smooth and flexible.

The card backs are plain white, and thus reversible.

Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

Suits are Swords, Cups, Pentacles, and Wands. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

This deck follows the RWS system throughout, and the minor arcana are somewhat scenic, though they do not feature any people. The art was drawn with colored markers.

The title card is signed and dated by the artist. but is not numbered. I know that production of the deck was very limited, but I cannot remember if Tracy ever mentioned how many copies she created, or intended to create.

Not much of the original internet discussion of the deck remains available now, but Adam McLean lists a copy in his online database. A few discussion threads from the Aeclectic Tarot Forum come up when I Google search for this deck, but I suspect much of the initial chatter regarding its creation, availability, and purchase happened within subscriber-only threads that are no longer available.

From what I recall, Jackdaw (Tracy Smith) created a relatively small number of these decks, which she offered for sale to Aeclectic Tarot Forum members whom she liked--myself among them.

Storage note: I house my copy in a sparkly silver drawstring bag, lined with pink satin, with a front pocket and beading embellishment. I keep the note from Tracy folded in the pocket. I cannot remember if Tracy made the bag, or if it was someone else on Aeclectic who did, but I distinctly remember being excited about buying it (or perhaps receiving it in trade?).

Description
An account of the resource
The Lost Tarot from artist Hans Bauer includes 22 major arcana and 4 aces, for a total of 26 cards, as well as a signed, numbered title card.

Also included with the set is a companion guide written by Carly Fischer, and a copy of what is called "William Bradford's Testamentum" -- a faux historical document that was created as part of the deck's narrative and backstory.

In addition to the above, a small card business card/thank you card was included in the box.

The deck is housed in a 2-part, lidded box. The box is extremely high quality; far, far better than most. It is durable, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed. It seems intentional, if that makes sense, whereas most deck boxes do not.

The cards measure 2.75" wide x 5.5" tall. The card stock is good quality; quite flexible, with a smooth, glossy coating.

The backs are a gold color, and are almost completely reversible.

Fortitude is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

The Lost Tarot was initially marketed and funded via a Kickstarter campaign. I was a backer at the $40 level, for one signed, numbered copy of the limited edition deck.

The campaign has since ended, but copies remain available for sale (currently priced at $60 USD) from the deck's website: The Lost Tarot.

My copy is number 48 of 500.

Description
An account of the resource
The Compound Tarot is in booklet format, and contains a complete set of art for 78 cards. The reverse of each page has the card back design on it, so it would be possible to remove the pages from the book, trim off the edges, and thus create a set of cards.

The book also suggests that the user might color the images, but the art doesn't seem well-suited to coloring, and part of its charm is that it is black and white.

The book is quite thick, yet compact. Each page measures 4 inches across (from the edge of the binding) by 5.5 inches tall. The front and back covers are clear plastic, like that of a report cover.

Note: I have 2 copies of this, both of which are signed by the artist.

Additional note: Full-color copies of the Compound tarot were also made available in deck form, in a limited run of 75 copies.

An account of the resource
78 cards in a two-part, lidded tin. The bottom of the tin is signed by the artist, and numbered 129/500. There's no title card.

Cards measure 12 cm tall x 7 cm wide.

The card stock is flexible, with a smooth matte finish. The cards have gold gilt edging that is nicer than most -- slightly textured edging instead of the sticky, shiny gold edging that is found on many other decks.

Strength is 8 and Justice is 11. The Fool is numbered 0.

Suits are Coins, Cups, Swords, and Wands. Court cards are Page, Queen, King, and Queen.

The card backs are non-reversible.

The minor arcana are fully scenic, and influenced by the RWS.

This deck was first marketed on Kickstarter; I was a backer of the deck with a $54 pledge. Along with my copy of the deck, I received 2 stickers and a handwritten, signed note card from the artist (enclosed inside a small, plain brown envelope).

According to the Kickstarter information, the deck (at the level I pledged) was accompanied by a companion booklet. At present, while I'm writing this (Jan. 12, 2020), I can't find the booklet. I suspect I already placed it on a different shelf -- if I find it later, I will update this entry.
