Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + 1 extra card + an 87-page small, softcover guidebook in a sturdy, 2-part lidded box. Note that the extra card is largely just a blank/spare; it features the deck's title, but nothing else.

The cards measure 7.1 cm wide x 12.7 cm long. The card stock is nicely flexible, with a smooth, matte finish that feels good to handle.

The card back design is non-reversible, though you'd have to pay close attention to notice.

Justice is VIII and Strength is XI. The Fool is unnumbered.

Suits are Blades, Goblets, Wands, and Discs. The Court cards are Valet, Knight, Queen, and King.

While not a true TdM style deck, the major arcana reflect a significant TdM influence, and would be recognizable to readers familiar with that tradition.

Regardless of how famliar you are with Guillermo del Toro's filmography, Tomás Hijo's art is delightful, engaging, and readable. Just be aware that the minor arcana are not scenic; I'd say they are somewhere on the continuum between "decorative" and "illustrated."

Of note: The cover of the guidebook contains a misspelling. Guillermo del Toro's name is listed twice on the cover, and in the second case, one "l" is omitted from his first name. His name is correctly spelled on the title page and box, however.

The box lists the retail price as $29.99 USD. I received my copy as Christmas gift in 2020.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + a title card + an author's "about" card + an LWB in a standard cardboard tuck box.

The cards measure 2.75" wide x 4.75" long. The card suffers from having been printed in Italy -- Italian printings of USG decks from this period are notoriously sticky, and this deck is no exception. The cardstock is somewhat flexible, with a lightly glossy yet sticky finish. The cards do not slide or shuffle easily; they glom on to each other and must be carefully separated, even after repeated handling.

The card back design is fully reversible.

Some, though not all, of the major arcana have been renamed. Justice is VIII and Strength is XI. The Dreamer (Fool) is numbered 0.

Suits are Cups, Wands, Swords, and Coins. The court cards are Princess, Prince, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are somewhat scenic, insofar as possible given the collage art. Sadly, the print quality does the art a disfavor in that it is too dark;
distinctions are lost. Also, the dimensions look slightly skewed and stretched in some cards.

In some of the cards, an RWS influence is evident, but in many cases these cards are doing their own thing, without obvious references to any major system.

My copy is signed by the artist, Arnell Ando, on the title card. If memory serves, I purchased this deck through her website in order to receive a signed copy.

An account of the resource
78 cards, with 12 additional cards that include a title card and various other information and guidance.

No box was included; I store my copy in a small blue plastic box with a clear, snap-on lid.

The cards are smaller than average, measuring 2.5" wide x 3.5" long.

The card stock is sturdy yet flexible, with a linen (slightly textured) finish.

The card back design is very colorful and non-reversible.

Strength is 8 and Justice is 11. The Fool is numbered 00. That's not a typo -- all of the majors have 2-digit numbers.

Suits are Chalices, Pentacles, Wands, and Swords. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are scenic and often referential to the RWS, but I wouldn't classify this as a RWS-style deck.

No physical (printed) LWB was included; however, a 262 page LWB was provided to all purchasers, in PDF format, sent via email.

I paid $43 USD for my copy in 2015. The deck's creator, Davina Penny, promoted the deck on the Aeclectic Tarot forum, which has since closed, though an archived version remains online. Davina's screen name was Shadowdancer.

A black & white "sketch" version of this deck was made available for sale at the same time, for the same price. (I have a copy of it, also.)

Description
An account of the resource
The "Tarot Box" set consists of 3 parts: a 78-card mini deck, a 336-page guidebook, and a snap-together cardboard mat offering a visual aid for laying out and reading the cards. The 3 components are housed in a clever cube-shaped box that flips open diagonally.

The cards measure 5 cm wide x 9 cm long. The card stock is very flexible, with a smooth semi-matte finish on the front and a slightly textured finish on the back.

The card backs are dark blue (or purple?) and fully reversible. A copyright line (Copyright © Giovanni Caselli 2001) appears in the upper right and lower left corners.

The deck is a mini-sized version of the Sharman-Caselli tarot, which has been published in multiple sizes and as part of multiple sets over the years. From what I can find, the Sharman-Caselli was first published as part of the Beginner's Guide to Tarot set in 2001. (Read more about it in this review by Diane Wilkes on her Tarot Passages site.)

The major arcana are unnumbered, but the book lists Justice in the eighth position and Strength in the eleventh.

The suits are Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are scenic and closely follow the RWS style/system.

Pinning down a year of publication for this set is challenging, as different sites list different publishers/imprints and different years for what is essentially the same "Tarot Box" set. No copyright year appears on the box, but the publication information in the book lists the "BOOKINABOX" Barnes & Noble edition as © 2005.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards in a thin cardboard tuck box, packaged together with a softcover book in a 2-part, lidded shelf box.

The cards measure 6 cm wide x 11.7 cm long. The cardstock is very flexible, with a glossy coating on both sides.

The card backs are blue with a pattern of stars, and are fully reversible.

Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

Suits are Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles. The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are just pips with arrangements of suit symbols.

The 10 of Pentacles was printed off-center, with the image running into the right border, all the way to the edge of the card.

There's no clear-cut publication or copyright year listed on the set box; however, Amazon, AbeBooks, and other retailers give 2005 as the year of publication.

The deck, illustrated by artist Jacqui Mair, was first published in the year 2000 by Collins & Brown Limited. (Note: This information doesn't appear on the set box, but is given on the side of the deck's tuckbox.)

The book, by authors Evelin Bürger and Johannes Fiebig, was first published even earlier -- in 1994 and then again in 1997.

The book, by the way, has no specific connection to the deck. The book's illustrations are of the standard Thoth, RWS, and TdM decks.

Honestly, the book stands nicely on its own; it's far better than most tarot books that are packaged with "gift shop" sets. The deck itself, though, is a disappointment. The minor arcana are plain pips, and the major arcana are flat and uninspired.

Tarot Celta
Description
An account of the resource
72 cards + a 57 page, hardcover companion book in a cardboard shelf box with a clear plastic cover.

The cards are very small, measuring 5.3 cm wide x 7.8 cm long. The card back design is fully reversible.

Despite its name, this isn't a true tarot. The deck is divided into 20 major arcana and 52 minor arcana, for a total of 72 cards. The major arcana bear almost no resemblance to traditional tarot majors.

I don't read enough Spanish to glean all the details, but the suits are Espadas, Ãrboles, Hoces, and Triskeles. Each suit has 3 court cards, more typical of playing cards, rather than 4 court cards as is normally seen in a true tarot deck.

I have not included any scans of the cards because I haven't taken them out of the shrinkwrap. I'm hesitant to do so because the cardboard "supports" around and under the cards are very thin and weak, and I don't want the cards to shift all over the box, especially since I'm not planning to read with this deck.

Though don't normally include non-tarot oracle decks in my database, I'm listing this one here by way of caution for other collectors who might, as I was, be lured by the word "tarot" in the title.

I would recommend this set only to those who enjoy oracle decks, prefer decks with very small cards, and who read enough Spanish to be able to understand the guidebook.

I paid $5.98 for the set at Half-Price Books; it was (and still is) in brand-new condition, but the box has a few scuffs.

Tarot of the Time Being
Description
An account of the resource
79 cards + a 207 page, softcover companion book in a flimsy cardboard shelf box. The deck is inside its own cardboard tuck box that fits inside the larger box. Note: The information on the back of the box indicates that the book has 212 pages. Technically this is true, but the page numbering ends at 207.

The cards measure 2.75" wide x 4.75" long.

The cardstock is thin and flexible, with a smooth, semi-matte finish.

The card back design is non-reversible.

Two versions of the Lovers card are included; one is titled Lover (singular) while the other is titled Lovers (plural).

No numbering appears on the cards themselves, but according to the companion book, Strength is VIII and Balance (Justice) is XI. La Mat (The Fool) is 0. Many of the majors have been renamed in the book; for example, Death is called the Wildcard.

The suits are Flame, Songs, Spirits, and Earth. The book does not state specifically how these align with traditional suits; I'm running on the assumption that Flame=Wands, Songs=Cups, Spirits=Swords, and Earth=Pentacles, but I could be wrong.

The court cards are Fool, Witch, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are--honestly, I'm not sure how to classify them. They aren't scenic. They aren't pips, in that no suit symbols are depicted. They are illustrated, I guess, but a more apt description is that they are art cards. They don't bear any distinct resemblance to traditional tarot cards.

The companion book provides a poem for each card as well as a description of each card. The poems are written by the artist/poet Steven J. Kilbey, and the descriptions are written by author K. P. Buk.

The book includes very little information regarding divinatory use of the deck.

Someone who enjoys using oracle decks may be able to read with this deck, but otherwise, my advice is to skip this set.

The set was published in 2015, but much of the poetry appeared in previously published collections and have earlier copyright dates.

Note: This set has some of the flimsiest packaging I've ever seen. The cardboard shelf box is very thin and easily crushed. The tuckbox for the cards is likewise quite thin.

1st edition. Limited edition of 200 decks; this set is #12 of a limited, numbered, signed special edition of 30.

The deck itself is not signed, but the set includes a numbered, signed "special edition" card as well as a numbered, signed large print of the Fool card.
Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + 10 postcards and a signed, numbered print and a signed, numbered edition card in a large, 2-piece wooden box with a sliding cover.

The cards are rectangular, measuring 7.2 cm wide x 15.1 cm long.

The card stock is uncoated, and the corners are square. This is not a deck intended for standard shuffling methods.

The card back design is non-reversible.

No guidebook is provided with this set, and it seems intended to be an art object, not a working deck.

Justice is 8 and I think Strength is 11, but it's not a typical depiction of Strength (there's no lion or animal in the image). The Fool is numbered 22.

The suits are not named, but the suit symbols are recognizable as Cups, Batons, Coins, and Swords. Likewise, the court cards are not titled, but they appear to fit within a Page, Knight, Queen, and King structure.

The minor arcana are pips. The Cups and Coins cards are fairly plain, while the Batons and Swords cards are more fully illustrated.

Note: The card measurements that are listed on Arnell's Art site (see link below) differ notably from my measurements. I have re-measured my cards several times and they are defintely 7.2 cm wide by 15.1 cm long.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards + an 80 page softcover guide book packaged together in a shelf box with a flip-front cover that opens to reveal the book and cards. The cards are nestled within a cardboard support/frame inside the set box, and protected by a clear plastic cover that separates the cards from the book.

The cards are small, about the size of playing cards, measuring 6.5 cm wide x 10 cm long. The card stock is very flexible, with a smooth, matte finish.

The card back design is completely reversible.

The major arcana are unnumbered, and are clearly influenced by the Tarot of Marseille, as are the minor arcana. The minors are illustrated arrangements of suit symbols.

Suits are Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles. The court cards are Knave, Knight, Queen, and King.

For a set that I'd classify as a "gift shop tarot," it's better than average. Provided that the reader is comfortable reading with TdM-style decks, this is a very usable deck, and the card stock is good quality.

However, the art is unremarkable and perfunctory.

I purchased my copy used from Half-Price Books. The cards are like-new and appear to have never been used. The book is in nearly-new shape. The box has some shelf wear.

An account of the resource
78 cards and a 161-page softcover guidebook packaged together in a set inside a sturdy cardboard shelf box that opens like a book. The deck itself is contained in a tuck box that nests inside the shelf box.

The cards measure 5 inches tall x 3 inches wide. The cardstock is reasonably flexible, but thin, and feels as if it could be easily bent or creased. I'd recommend shuffling with caution. The card have a smooth, mostly matte finish.

The card back design is fully reversible.

Strength is 8 and Justice is 11. The Fool is numbered 0.

The suits have been renamed as follows:

Roses = Wands
Wings = Swords
Shells = Cups
Gems = Coins

The court cards are Princess (Page), Prince (Knight), Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are pips with basic arrangements of suit symbols.

And now for a bit of advice. If you are seeking a deck by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber, try the Enchanted Tarot or the Zerner-Farber Tarot.

The True Love Tarot, on the other hand, is awful; it's an example of everything bad about "gift shop" tarots. The quality of the book is nicer than that of the cards, and the overall set packaging is designed to look appealing on the shelf and to look expensive, but then the cards are an utter disappointment. The pips are a last-minute afterthought of graphic design, and don't fit artistically with the majors and court cards.

Description
An account of the resource
78 cards plus an 80 page hardcover guidebook in a 2-part, lidded cardboard set box that stands upright. The set box is notably more annoying than most in how it is partitioned, in that it is easy to accidentally drop (and trap) cards in the portion of the box intended for the book.

The cards measure 12 cm tall x 6.6 cm wide. The card stock is reasonably flexible, with a thick, glossy coating that feels almost plasticized. The cards also feature goil foil stamped accents on top of the glossy coating.

The card back design is fully reversible.

Strength is VIII and Justice is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.

Suits are Wands, Swords, Cups, and Pentacles. The court cards are Princess, Prince, Queen, and King.

The minor arcana are attractively illustrated, but not scenic.

I think it would be possible to use TdM meanings when reading with this deck.

Note: This deck has exactly the same art as that of the Pathfinder's Tarot. There are two key differences between these sets:

The Pathfinder's Tarot features larger cards; the Truth-Seeker's cards are smaller.

The Truth-Seeker's Tarot features gold foil stamped accents, while the Pathfinder's does not.

Also, the Truth-Seeker's was published first, in 2008. The Pathfinder's followed in 2011.

Given a choice between the two, I prefer the Pathfinder's. The art looks better and brighter in that version, and though it lacks the gold foil stamping, the gold-colored portions of the images catch the light beautifully, almost as if they were foiled.

I find the gold foil in the Truth-Seeker's is a bit too dark; it also feels a little delicate, as if it could be accidentally scratched.
