Tarot Celta
Celtic history and mythology
72 cards + a 57 page, hardcover companion book in a cardboard shelf box with a clear plastic cover.<br /><br />The cards are very small, measuring 5.3 cm wide x 7.8 cm long. The card back design is fully reversible.<br /><br />Despite its name, this isn't a true tarot. The deck is divided into 20 major arcana and 52 minor arcana, for a total of 72 cards. The major arcana bear almost no resemblance to traditional tarot majors.<br /><br />I don't read enough Spanish to glean all the details, but the suits are Espadas, <span class="ILfuVd"><span class="e24Kjd">Ã</span></span>rboles, Hoces, and Triskeles. Each suit has 3 court cards, more typical of playing cards, rather than 4 court cards as is normally seen in a true tarot deck.<br /><br />I have not included any scans of the cards because I haven't taken them out of the shrinkwrap. I'm hesitant to do so because the cardboard "supports" around and under the cards are very thin and weak, and I don't want the cards to shift all over the box, especially since I'm not planning to read with this deck.<br /><br />Though don't normally include non-tarot oracle decks in my database, I'm listing this one here by way of caution for other collectors who might, as I was, be lured by the word "tarot" in the title. <br /><br />I would recommend this set <em>only</em> to those who enjoy oracle decks, prefer decks with very small cards, and who read enough Spanish to be able to understand the guidebook.<br /><br />I paid $5.98 for the set at Half-Price Books; it was (and still is) in brand-new condition, but the box has a few scuffs.

78 cards + 2 title cards (Spanish and English) with an LWB in a thin cardboard tuckbox that fits inside a wooden outer box with a hinged lid. The name of the deck is woodburned on both the top and the inside of the lid.<br /><br />The cards measure 7.1 cm wide x 12.2 cm long. The cardstock is flexible but quite flimsy, with a shiny finish. I would not risk shuffling this deck by ordinary methods; even with delicate handling, the card corners are prone to chipping.<br /><br />The card backs are reversible.<br /><br />Justice is VIII and Strength is XI. The Fool is numbered XXII.<br /><br />Suits are Swords, Batons, Cups, and Coins. Interestingly, the cards themselves bear French titles, while the LWB assigns them Spanish titles. The court cards are Valet, Cavalier, Reyne, and Roy -- again, though, the LWB gives the Spanish version of the titles.<br /><br />The minor arcana are illustrated in the TdM style.<br /><br />I would put the publication year somewhere between 2000-2015, or more probably between 2005-2012. However, no date appears on the cards, LWB, or box(es). <br /><br />Likewise, very little is given in the way of an artist's name or publisher's name. The only name on the tuckbox is "Industria Argentina" and the only name on the title card(s) is "Babaji." A gold sticker on the right front corner of the wooden box reads "Legitimo Tarot A. G." -- the same sticker is on the clear plastic wrap that was around the tuckbox.<br /><br /><strong>Note</strong>: A round version of this deck was also made available; I own a copy. I don't have records of the purchase, but I recall buying both the regular and the circular versions at the same time.

78 cards + a title card and an artist's card in a standard cardboard tuckbox.<br /><br />I suspect that this deck came with an LWB, as there is a little bit of spare room in the box. I may have it stored elsewhere, or I may have aquired this deck used (<em>sans</em> LWB); honestly, I don't recall.<br /><br />The cards are a bit smaller than average, measuring 6 cm wide x 11 cm long. The card stock is flexible, with a smooth finish that is somewhere in between matte and glossy. The deck is very easy to handle and shuffle.<br /><br />The card backs are fully reversible.<br /><br />The cards are titled in 4 languages: German, English, Spanish, and another language that I'm not sure of. It isn't French -- it could be Italian or Portuguese, perhaps?<br /><br />Justice is VIII and Strength is XI. The Fool is numbered 0.<br /><br />The suits are Coins, Cups, Wands, and Swords. The court cards are Jack, Knight, Queen, and King.<br /><br />The minor arcana are a curious mash-up -- at first glance, they seem to be decorative pips with various arrangements of suit symbols. But if you look closer, many of them are clearly influenced by the RWS, with the arrangement of symbols mirroring those of the corresponding RWS cards.<br /><br />The major arcana, conversely, are more referential of the TdM tradition.<br /><br />No ISBN is present on the box or cards, though there is a barcode on the box bottom, as follows: 8 420707 387600.<br /><br />No date is given on the box or cards, either, but Aeclectic Tarot lists the year of publication as 2009.

78 cards, packaged as a set with a 264 page softcover companion book. The cards are in a cardboard tuck box, and the set is in a larger cardboard box.
The cards measure 12 cm tall x 7 cm wide.
The cards have a slightly glossy, lightly textured finish and are nicely flexible.
Card backs are reversible.
The card titles and companion book are in Spanish. Likewise, all text on the packaging is in Spanish.
Suits and courts and majors are all titled just like the Rider-Waite-Smith.
As I cannot read Spanish, I'm not certain if the companion book gives any insight into who Edith Waite is, or why this re-coloration (and slight redrawing) of the RWS was made.
Anyway, it is an attractive, colorful, more contemporary-feeling RWS.

78 cards in a standard cardboard tuck box + a 249 page softcover companion book in Spanish, housed together in a larger cardboard set box. No title card. No LWB.
Cards measure 12 cm tall x 6.3 cm wide.
The card stock is marvelous -- very flexible, with a lightly glossy finish.
Backs are fully reversible.
La Justicia is 8 and La Fuerza is 11. El Loco is numbered 0.
Suits are Oros, Copas, Espadas, and Bastos. Courts are Sota, Caballo, Reina, and Rey.
The minors are beautifully illustrated and evocative, but not fully scenic.
The text on the back of the deck box, companion book, and set box is all identical -- thus, I've scanned only the smaller deck box (the other parts of the set are shown in the photo).
Both the deck box and the set box are slightly sub-standard in construction; the deck box is already coming unglued, despite careful and only occasional handling. Also, after opening the set, the book and deck don't really "fit" back into the larger box in any useful way. (Note for myself -- I keep the set box folded flat in the box with the others.)
The ISBNs on the deck box and set box differ slightly (both are listed here). The book has no ISBN.
No date/year of publication appears in or on the deck, deck box, companion book, or set box. I purchased my copy in 2013, and Amazon lists it as having been published in 2013 (specifically, available on April 1, 2013). Amazon.com currently lists this set as available for $30.87 USD.
